How Sweet It Is Bakery

We've recently completed the design and production of the interior for the How Sweet It Is bakery in the Lower East Side. Our friends at Studio D&B approached us for the design of a pattern for the ceiling, which quickly evolved into a 3d pattern that fills most of the space.

Illumination @ Bravin Lee Studios

Michael Somoroff's recent installation Illumination is currently on display at Bravin Lee Programs in NYC through August 10th, 07. The lab worked closely with the artist to produce the digital animation content for the show. The installation features a pretty impressive 270-degree projection of the main video, for which a custom lens was developed for the show by The Eluminati. The sculpture, Illumination I is currently on display at the Aldrich Museum in Connecticut through October 14th, 07.

Paul Poiret exhibit at The Met

We've finished two animations comissioned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the exhibition "Poiret: King of Fashion". The show will open on May 9th and will go until August 5th.

The lab worked closely with Christopher Noey and The Costume Institute (Harold Koda - Curator in Charge and Andrew Bolton -Curator) to develop the animations, which show the way in which some of Poiret's dresses are constructed through very minimalistic means, yet reaching highly complex outcomes.

SOFTlab @ Pratt

We are teaching again at PRATT this semester. The brief for the class was to come up with something interesting and new... The product is Visualizing[DATA]. Using MAYA and some scripting we are going to try and get the students to produce animated intensity maps of a space and then have that affect a physical intervention, through the creation of parametric objects.

Michael Rees' Putto 4x4 completed

We attended the opening for Putto4x4. Putto 4x4 is the latest sculpture by our good friend, collaborator, general mad scientist, and very talented artist, Michael Rees. We collaborated with Michael on the fabrication of the sculpture. Everything was modeled and sent straight to the CNC. The foam and structure were machined so that we were able to assemble the shape in a couple of hours.
