Putto 4x4

SOFTlab collaborated with artist Michael Rees in the development and fabrication of a large-format sculpture for a private collector. The sculpture's internal structure was digitally modeled and then CNC-milled out of plywood. The body of the sculpture was made out of polystyrene foam. By "flip milling" the foam, the negative of the structure was carved out, allowing the foam to be fitted over the wooden structure. Assembly of the finished piece took less than a day.

SOFTlab also helped produce the accompanying video animation.
